Overview

When visiting the world's best cities, are you the kind of person who wants to; find the hidden spots, the breathtaking views, learn the amazing stories and avoid the mundane tourist trail? What if you could have all this information and also live the experience unspoiled?

Travel Guide is a beautifully designed 21x13cm hardcover book which has a special focus on thrilling stories. This is a guide of places you’ll remember.

Each city guide will contain:

  • +300 amazing spots for you to get lost in

  • +200 places to sketch

  • +700 not so obvious places from which to take your next big shot

  • A large fold-out map featuring clear, easy-to-read cartography

  • Delightful itineraries such as "Happy Rainy Days" or "Drink with a view"

  • Specific instructions on how to visit not so accessible places

  • Pro tips on how to pay less

  • And NO photographs. Photographs spoil our first impressions.

Travel Guide's mission is to give more exposure to the world's best architecture. Buildings are meant to be visited, otherwise they die. Proudly driven to keep good architecture alive so it will inspire more architects, designers and citizens to build more excellent architecture in the future.

The guide is made for the urban explorer, an individual who loves discovering cities in a different way. Travel Guide collects the best spaces of a city inspiring travelers to craft their trips in a unique way, making it easier for us to visit, understand and photograph each of these places. As a consequence, us travelers will be helping to keep buildings alive.

Traveling is discovering. Traveling is caring. Traveling is being surprised. The experience of being immersed in a city is quite a unique thing when done right. Current guides lack this approach and therefore fail to engage travelers with the cities they visit. Travel Guide is focused on making the most for each explorer's traveling experience.

Travel Guide will be printed on high quality, recycled, and bleed resistant A5 paper, then lovingly hand bound in a durable hard cover complete with an elastic enclosure strap, similar to a Moleskine.

Sketches were drawn in the best Hahnemühle paper (museum quality), with the most remarkable pens by Rotring using waterproof ink by Faber Castell.

As an architect, I've always been fascinated by the stories behind each building (why was it built that way? what were the beliefs of the architect? who used the building? who died there?). As a traveler, I find joy in discovering places I didn't know about. As a citizen, I love contributing in the well-being of buildings. For me, it isn't enough to just check the building online, as there is something special in visiting the site in person. The problem is that these extraordinary buildings and their stories are somehow hidden.

I strongly believe in how these guides will change the way we perceive cities. People need to be engaged with the extraordinary architecture there is in the world in order to take action to preserve the good buildings and never build again the bad ones.

I see these guides as a tool to engage people with their future cities. As an architect, this is my humble way of building a better world.

Risks and challenges

The process of creating a physical book from scratch has proven to be an incredibly difficult process, but as an architect, high quality printing is my second nature.

I'll be using a fulfillment company to ship the books out once printed, and it's possible this will take a little longer than I'd like, so you never know what could go wrong with printing complications.

I want you to enjoy the first guide: London as soon as possible so you can start discovering this vibrant city in early December 2017! If I receive more funds than expected, I will probably be able to ship it even before that.

I take responsibility to make sure that Travel Guide is as open and as transparent as possible when it comes to this campaign.

I couldn't be more passionate about this guide and can't wait to send it to all the lovely backers.
